Remote desktop connection utility enables user to have access to his computer from another computer. It is very useful utility for those people who don't want to take their laptop with them all the time but they want to have access to their laptop from anyother computer. With remote desktop you can connect to your computer from anyother computer, once the connection is activated you can view the screen of your computer through another computer, you can also use mouse of that computer to explore your windows, but this can only happen only with permission of computer which is acting as server. Comuter which is made available to user through remote desktop is called "home" computer. The computer through which is used to access home computer is called "remote" computer. When you are accessing your computer through remote desktop, remote desktop locks your computer for anyother user, you can unlock this by just pressing ctrl+alt+del. More than one user can have active session on single computer with remote desktop.
Following are the requirtements for remote desktop connection Remote computer must have the windows XP professional edition installed on it. Connected computers must be using either email account such as microsoft outlook or windows massenger. Your computer and assistance computer should be connected to internet while using remote assistance.
In computers using LAN (local area network), windows firewall might stop your remote assistance, to get rid rid of this problem you will have to change your firewall settings, if it is still not working then check your network administrator. Remote desktop connection feature is available in Microsoft windows xp professional edition, it is not available in windows xp home edition. Windows xp home edition can be upgrade to windows xp professional edition. Windows xp home edition can be use as a client for accessing you computer running desktop assistance.
Windows Xp uses Remote desktop protocol (RDP) 5.1. RDP 5.1 is best to use port, it has better improved performance. Windows xp uses Port 3389 for remote desktop connection port.
